Hi Friends!

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Join us on Saturday, September 3 at 10am for a Canoe Tour around the relaxing waterways of Bayou Segnette State Park. Weather permitting, we will have a brief canoeing safety lesson, provide life jackets for everyone and enjoy a paddle down the canal. Canoeing at Bayou Segnette is great for beginners because our canals are shallow and have almost no current.  Everyone is allowed to participate but children under 13 will sit in a non-paddling seat for the fun.

Then at 2pm, cool off in the Nature Center while we show a nature video on our flat screen t.v.

Nature Programs this Friday and Saturday, August 26 & 27, 2011

Hi-

Join us on Friday, August 26 at 7pm for Storytelling ‘Round the Campfire!  We will be exchanging campfire stories and making s’mores for everyone to enjoy. Please park and meet us at the Group Camp parking lot.

On Saturday at 10am, meet at the Nature Center for Birding for Kids. This program is really exciting for kids new to binoculars, field guides and of course, birding!

Then at 2pm Saturday, join us for a Guided Hike through the nature trails of Bayou Segnette State Park. Meet at the Wildcat Walk trailhead on the main park road.

Nature Programs this Friday and Saturday, August 19 & 20, 2011

Hi Friends!

Join us on Friday, August 19th at 2pm for a Guided Hike through Bayou Segnette’s nature trails. We are meeting at the Wildcat Walk trailhead on the main park road. Be sure to bring some water to keep hydrated!

We are having another fun-filled canoe trip at 10am this Saturday, August 20th. Beginners and experienced canoers are welcome to join us on a relaxing paddle through the waterways of Bayou Segnette State Park. A short canoeing basics class will inform beginners on paddling techniques and everyone will get a life jacket. Children under 13 may participate by sitting in a non-paddling seat inside a canoe with their parents/guardians.

 

After you’ve tested your paddling skills on Saturday, join us in the Nature Center at 2pm for Kids Crafting Nature. Kids will learn a new nature topic and make a craft to take home.

Nature Programs this Friday and Saturday, August 12 & 13, 2011

Hi Friends!

Stop by the Nature Center on Friday, August 12th at 11 am for Ranger’s Choice.  Then on Saturday, August 13th at 1 pm come back for Kids Crafting Nature.  One of our most popular programs, Kids Crafting Nature focuses on a new nature topic each month and participants create and take home a craft.

Nature Programs this Weekend!

Nature programs this Friday and Saturday, August 5 & 6, 2011

Join us Friday, August 5th at 8pm for a Guided Night Hike through the trails of Bayou Segnette.  We’ll bring flashlights and look for nocturnal animals in the park. Meet at the Wildcat Walk trailhead on the main park road.

Come by Saturday, August 6th at 10am for a Guided Canoe Tour.  This canoe tour is great for first-time paddlers because we give a lesson on canoeing basics, provide life jackets and the water is really calm.  Children under 13 may participate by sitting in a non-paddling seat in a canoe.

Be sure to stop by the Nature Center at 2pm on Saturday, August 6th for a new program, Top of the Food Chain: Alligators.  In this lecture-style program, park visitors will learn all about alligators including their role in the food chain and how they got their current threatened species status.

Hi all!

Join us on Friday July 29th for Ranger’s Choice at 3pm in the Nature Center for an amazing nature video featured on the flat screen tv.

Then on Saturday don’t miss our Guided Canoe Tour along the waterways of Bayou Segnette!  Children under 13 may participate by sitting in a non-paddling seat in the middle of the canoe. Never been canoeing?  We’ll give canoeing instructions and provide life jackets for your safety. This trip is first come, first served up to the first 18 guests. Meet at the Nature Center at 10am Saturday, July 30th.
